Wherever his pen turns, Stephen Scobie explores the disguised self, the shadowy other. His most daring temptation has been to don the words and persona of none other than Jesus Christ. Against this startling rhetorical move, Scobie weaves his meditative, resonant long poem into an image of Christ as the both the Son of God and the intimately suffering son of humanity.

Scobie is a Professor in the Department of English at the University of Victoria. He has received the Governor General's Award for poetry, is the author of numerous critical works on Canadian literature, and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada.
