Cakes and birthdays- go hand-in-hand, at least in the Indian context. We all have memories of cutting a cake, and seeing a cake being cut at a friends birthday.
Pastries another subset of cakes are also a famous delicacy on such festive occasions. Disc-shaped and about 2-inches thick, cakes are prepared from
the basic materials, like flour, eggs and sugar. These are baked at a prescribed temperature, depending on the ingredients to give that lip-smacking taste.
At times, cakes have a dark base material, made from adding chocolate that requires a higher temperature for baking.

The baked cake is put on a stand and decorated with icing sugar. Icing on the cake prepared from whipped cream, sugar and eggs, give each cake a different look.
The icing is loaded with cherries & nuts to give it an appetizing look. Sometimes, nuts and dry-fruits are added to the dough, before baking. The most
popular amongst cakes are Black Forest- consists of chocolate, black berry & normal cake dough; Pine-apple cake made from butter, pine-apple juice and dough;
Chocolate cake made mainly from chocolate & milk.
