The Sydney Opera House is considered to be one of the most recognizable images of the modern world. It is not only one of the most famous performing arts venues, but also as representative of Australia as the pyramids are of Egypt. It is an expressionist modern design, with a series of large precast concrete 'shells', each taken from a hemisphere of the same radius, forming the roofs of the structure. This magnificent structure looks like a giant ship whose sails are blowing in the breeze.
