Y The Last Man is a dystopian science fiction comic book series by Brian K. Vaughan published by Vertigo beginning in 2002. The series is about the only man to survive the apparent simultaneous death of every male mammal on Earth. The series was published in sixty issues by Vertigo and collected in a series of ten paperback volumes. The series covers were primarily by J. G. Jones and Massimo Carnevale. The series received five Eisner Awards. Y The Last Man, Whys And Wherefores was nominated for the first Hugo Award for Best Graphic Story. Y The Last Man is the gripping saga of Yorick Brown, an unemployed and unmotivated slacker who discovers he is the only male left in the world after a plague of unknown origin instantly kills every mammal with a Y chromosome. Accompanied by his mischievous monkey, Ampersand and the mysterious Agent 355, Yorick embarks on a transcontinental journey to find his long lost girlfriend and discover why he is the last man on earth.
About the Author
Brian Keller Vaughan (born 1976) is an American comic book and television writer. He is best known for the comic book series Y The Last Man, Ex Machina, Runaways and Pride of Baghdad and was a writer, story editor and producer of the television series Lost, during seasons three through five. He was nominated for a Writers Guild of America Award for Best Dramatic Series at the February 2009 ceremony for his work on the fourth season of Lost.
